Summer has officially arrived and we cannot be more excited for the warmer weather, beach picnics and longer evenings. With Summer also comes pot lucks, backyard barbecues and 4th of July parties. Are you in charge of desserts this year? If so, we have some ideas that are sure to be a hit!

Dessert bars are a great way for your guests to pick and choose which treats to indulge in after eating all that yummy barbecue food! Brownie bites, cake pops and cookies are great options that will satisfy any sweet tooth (honorable mention: macaroons, doughnut holes and mini cupcakes). DIY Cookie Bar
If this is your first time hosting a dessert bar, it may be helpful to stick to one type of dessert. For example, you can easily assemble a candy bar with a selection of M & M’s, Gummy Bears and lollipops. If you’re looking for a more scrumptious treat, we think cookies are the way to go!
When it comes to cookies, we believe the possibilities are endless. There’s peanut butter cookies, oatmeal raisin, and who could forget classic chocolate chip?! Having options for your guests is preferred, but you don’t need to go overboard! Two to three flavor options are perfect! We recommend nut-free cookies (for allergy concerns) and providing at least one non-chocolate option for guests who for some strange reason or another do not participate in a chocoholic lifestyle.
Clear jars are perfect for any dessert bar, as the treats are clearly visible but also covered. Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond offer several clear cookie jars. To finish the look, you can take some gift tags and label them with the cookie flavor. There may be a few guests who are simply too full to indulge in treats so having favor bags and twist ties is a must. That way, they can take some home to savor later.
